Before you continue reading this post, can I ask that you think back, to times in your life, that you suffered the consequences of your actions. This is an ongoing process in our lives. These consequences can be as simple as being punished as a child for disobedience. Losing your driver’s license as a teenager for driving over the speed limit on more than one occasion, or for being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. As long as there are laws, rules, ethical behavior, and just normal common courtesy behaviors that we have to live by there will always be consequences. Think, for a minute, if there were no consequences. Wouldn’t many humans push the limits of what is acceptable in society? Even worse, without consequences, humans would continue to perform the same actions.
That may be fine if someone’s actions are only affecting that single individual. But what if a person’s actions affect hundreds, thousands, or even millions of people? It seems like there are always consequences for everyone except the people who are doing wrong the most.
Here, in the United States, we have laws that provide consequences for violating those laws. The laws are not there as a vanity. They provide valuable guidance for government and society or we could end up with more corruption, violence and other crimes than we have now. There are enough posts, articles, and videos online that are both for and against laws but I provided one link to a short post that, to this writer, makes sense. What Society Would Be Like Without Laws
So why do we have individuals, in our government, that never suffer the consequences of their actions? They have broken laws, violated their own rules, made stupid decisions that effect millions, and never suffer any consequences. There are single individuals in the government that give away billions of our tax dollars, open our borders, make rules that bypass the legislative branch of the government representing the people. This is what really pisses me off. When a single individual, I don’t care if is the President, Head of an Administrative Agency, Governor, Mayor, City Council, Chief of Police, or whatever. No one person should impose their will on the rest of us. Perfect example is Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler ordered the Portland Police to stand down Why Portland Police Stand By Passively When Leftists Riot. And what happened to this Mayor? Nothing. He is still in office and has suffered no consequences other than criticism. He should lose his job, any pension from his employment with the state, and if anyone lost their life he should be charged and jailed. That is how you stop people from wrongdoing. Consequences.
Here is some additional dirt on the supposed good guys that are only interested in what is best for the American People. ” 78 Members of Congress have violated a law designed to prevent insider trading and stop conflicts of interest.” Business Insider. Hey, all you representatives of the people, think you can share some of that insider trading information with the rest of us? And it’s not just Democrats or Republicans, it’s both parties. And best of all they get a slap on the wrist if they get caught. No CONSEQUENCES.
And, if you want someone to blame, I have the person responsible. Just look in the mirror. We have allowed this to go on. Just look at Portland Oregon. I remember seeing videos of people driving on streets with their families with protestors breaking their windows and beating on their cars. Buildings burning and businesses destroyed. Who paid for all that damage? We did through our tax dollars, our insurance premiums increasing, and for some, the loss of a family member. And the Mayor that allowed some of the chaos, is still in office. The voters that re-elected him should suffer the consequences. It happens in every state that I have resided in. The politicians never do what the people want but we keep on re-electing them. So, we must like it. As the great George Carlin put it “Garbage In, Garbage Out”.
You have to understand. The two sides that are dividing our country are in a fight for survival and it has trickled down to the people. People tend to have irrational behavior when they are always fighting. And it is not going to magically disappear. It will continue until it reaches a breaking point and then we all be in a fight for survival.
The Lack of Consequences is depicted in the Montage of Images for this post. This is what happens when there are no Consequences.
