America! Are we really that terrible?

I find it amazing, that I hear more and more about how terrible America is. Even more amazing to me is what I am hearing is not coming from the outside, but from within the United States. It seems like it is always what someone else did in the past. You know, in a time when it was more fashionable to conquer a neighboring country. Or when using humans of another nation, race, or nationality to perform laborious tasks. Why do we have to keep dragging our past into our present or future?

Maybe we should stop and look at the generosity of America. Not just with our tax dollars, but with our volunteer efforts, military support, and providing opportunity and a whole host of other benefits to people looking for a better life.

According to Forbes and openthebooks.com the U.S. spent about $282.6 billion on Foreign Aid over a six-year period. According to another source $51.5 billion was allocated for fiscal year 2020.

According to share.america.gov foreign aid is given to countries to help with emergency preparedness, disaster relief, economic development, and poverty reduction. There are over twenty U.S. Government Agencies that manage these programs. Operating those agencies also cost the tax payers.

This article is not to debate whether Foreign Aid is good or bad for the U.S. Taxpayer, although many Americans would rather spend the money here at home. Maybe we should try looking at more recent history, or the present instead of always dragging our past into or future. Let’s look at the good things America has done for the world even at the expense of its own people.,
